South Florence and Wilson Deliver Memorable Doubleheader Filled With Milestones and Strong Performances

Wilson Sr guard Zoey Miller honored during tonight’s doubleheader in front of home crowd.

South Florence and Wilson High School met for a varsity girls and boys doubleheader, and the night delivered strong performances, meaningful moments, and a packed gym that stayed engaged from start to finish.

The girls game opened the evening with South Florence setting the tone early and finishing with a 57-point team effort. Harmony Bostick led the Bruins with 15 points, continuing to show why, even as a freshman, she has established herself as one of the top players in the region. London Brown followed with 12 points, while Allyson Watson added 10. Amari Gamble contributed eight points, Trey Hanna scored six, Madison Randolph finished with four, and Malaysia Lopez chipped in two to round out the scoring.

South Florence’s balance and pace helped them move to 14–2 on the season and 3–1 in region play. Head coach David Robinson continues to get consistent production from his roster, and the Bruins look locked in as they head toward the heart of the season. Their next challenge comes January 16 with a road matchup at Lower Richland.

Wilson’s girls were led by a strong group effort of their own. Jordan Nelson and Logan Murray each scored nine points, while Zoey Miller finished with seven. Hayden Robinson added six, Faith Taylor scored four, and Leah Spears returned to the floor with three points in her first game back from injury. Under the leadership of head coach Kiari Cain, the Wilson girls now sit at 9–4 overall and 3–2 in region play. They will look to bounce back at home January 16 against Mullins.

One of the biggest moments of the night came during the intermission between the girls and boys games, when Wilson honored Zoey Miller for reaching the 1,000-point milestone in her high school career. Miller was celebrated by her school, the community, and the entire city in a heartfelt ceremony. Known not only as an outstanding basketball player but also a standout softball player and student, Miller received a long ovation that reflected the respect she has earned on and off the court.

The boys game followed with Wilson extending its dominance in the rivalry, defeating South Florence for the 11th straight time. The last time South Florence beat Wilson on the boys side was in 2019. Even without reigning Gatorade Player of the Year and Conference Player of the Year Josh Leonard, Wilson found leadership and production from across the lineup.

Carmelo Whitaker delivered one of his strongest performances of the season, finishing with 15 points and controlling the paint throughout the night. With Leonard sidelined, Whitaker set the tone by attacking the glass, scoring on putbacks, finishing through contact, and converting second-chance opportunities. His physical presence helped Wilson establish momentum and maintain it. Jaden Gerald led all scorers with 13 points, while K.J. Allen added 11. Isaiah Addison finished with nine, Josh Gamble and Monte Hamilton scored seven each, Jabron McFadden added six, and Jordan Brockington contributed one point.

Wilson boys head coach Yusuf English continues to get disciplined, confident play from his group, and the Tigers now stand at 12–6 on the season.

South Florence fought throughout the game and received scoring from multiple players. Adrian Singletary led the Bruins with eight points, while M. Johnson and D. Green each finished with seven. Z. Johnson added four, Trevon M. and Jaiden M. each scored two, and T. Washington chipped in two. The South Florence boys now sit at 11–6 overall as they continue to build through a challenging schedule.

From Harmony Bostick’s continued rise, to Zoey Miller’s milestone moment, to Carmelo Whitaker’s physical performance in the paint, the night captured everything high school basketball is about. Competitive games, respected coaches, and athletes stepping up for their teams made it a memorable evening for both programs and the fans in attendance.
