Bruin down: Trojans spoil Bruins' Homecoming
In a rematch of the 2022 South Carolina State Championship and on South Florence's homecoming, the Northwestern Trojans came into Florence in yet another heavyweight Friday night fight for the Bruins. The Bruins were coming off the big win on the road against Summerville, welcomed to the den a familiar foe, the Northwestern Trojans, the team they beat in the 2022 state championship. If you like offense, this was the game for you as the Trojans dominated the Bruins 55-35 to spoil the Bruins' homecoming
The game:
The Northwestern Trojans got into the red zone on their first drive, but the defense got a big stop early on 3rd down with a sack by Bruins LB Terry Gordon to hold the Trojans to a FG. The next drive, the Bruins struck with the ground and pound attack and drove down the field, which was capped off by a Messiah Jackson TD run to take the lead. The very next drive, the Trojans' QB Xavier Means on 4th down had a long touchdown run to retake the lead. Messiah Jackson and the Bruins' offense responded as Jackson threw a dart to JayAun Perkins, and he ran a long way for the Bruin TD. The track race continued all the way through the game. Northwestern had a couple of stops, and that was the difference in the game as the Trojans drove at will on the Bruin defense.
My MVP:
If you weren’t familiar with Xavier Means before tonight, you are now. Means and WR Kameron Vance wreaked havoc all over the Bruin defense. Means was effective not just with his legs, but his placement throwing the ball, and his accuracy was exceptional tonight. Vance, his main target, had a couple of TDs, including the game-sealing 99-yard kickoff return early in the 4th quarter.
What’s next for these teams?
The Bruins are back in action next Friday night, and are gonna need to make some adjustments before they take on another 5A team in Fort Dorchester on the road next week.
The Trojans are gonna look to capitalize on this huge momentum boosting win as they take on the South Pointe Stallions next Friday night at home
